A flat pack, design-focused, consumer satellite
The challenge set out by ViaSat was to design a new innovative model of satellite dish that would both expand their customer base as well as bring down acquisition costs. The proposed design is starkly different aesthetically and functionally from the traditional parabolic satellite dish, and is significantly easier to install. We decided to use a phased array plate for its advantages in alignment, weight, form, and shipping.
The essential design approach is to make the normally unsightly satellite dish look like a friendly and sophisticated consumer product. Our design suits both modern apartment living and traditional suburban housing. Due to its smaller compact size, it can be sold easily in-store and can be delivered globally without ViaSat having to build a global network of installers.
